It's a totally amazing time in our lives. Our baby is turning 1 in just 2 weeks.
This brings on more feelings than some can appreciate. There are so many things I didn't realize before being a parent- and this is one of them. A first birthday party is so much more than a celebration of a baby turning one year old. It's a celebration for the parents to express their relief to one another and all those that have surrounded them that they made it through one of the toughest yet surprisingly satisfying years of their lives!
There are things that you will learn about yourself, your relationship with your spouse, and your friends and family in this first year after a new baby is born. There are things you learn to control and things you let go. You get better at your career even though there are times you think you're sure to be fired!
You come to understand all those clichés that your parents and others have told you.
'You never knew you could love something so much.'
'It's the hardest job and the most fun job you'll ever have.'
'One day, you'll wake up and you'll be just like your mom/dad.'
'I don't know what I did with all my free time before I had a baby.'
But somehow, you make it through it all- this rite of passage they call parenthood. And all those things that you thought would never happen, they do. And just like that, it's over. And you find yourself reflecting on that first year and writing on a blog... and sadistically waiting to hear that one of your friends is pregnant so that you can relive that entire awesome experience through them.
But this blog isn't going to be about me. It's about this fantastic person named Lindsey. She's incredible. And if you don't know this for yourself just yet, you will! Happy Birthday, Lindsey!
